The Rochester District Golf Association began its Girls' Junior Player of the Year Award in 2018 as a way to honor the year's top female junior players - ages 12 through 18 - based on points earned from local, regional and national junior tournaments throughout the season.

Winning the 2019 RDGA Girls' Junior Player of the Year Award was Jayde Ford of Irondequoit Country Club.

Ford won the RDGA Girls Junior Player of the Year Award by a mere 7 point margin over runner-up Julia Zigrossi of Ridgemont. Ford and Zigrossi battled for the 2019 RDGA Girls Junior Championship in August at Blue Heron Hills - with Ford winning a sudden death playoff for the title. Finishing third in this exciting race was Mikah McDonnell, who won the inaugural Girls' Player of the Year award in 2018.

For the 2020 season, the decision has been made to change the process by which the RDGA identifies its Players of the Year - including awards for Men, Women, Seniors, Junior Boys and Junior Girls.

Beginning this year, there will no longer be a points schedule for any of the five Player of the Year categories. Tracking of player performance will be done internally - with the ultimate decision of who wins Players of the Year honors being made by a select committee of golf community leaders in the Rochester area.
